I painted Wharton's Cove Sunrise the winter after I moved from Lewes to the Cedar Neck peninsula just outside of Ocean View, Delaware in 1993.
It was very quiet and peaceful, as it still is in the off-season on the edge of what has now become the James Farm Ecological Preserve. This view is no longer available exactly like this but the quietness and beauty remain and the spring air is still filled with birdsong and my deck as I write is filled with flowers, vegetables and herbs, visited by butterflies, bees and birds, including the beautiful and spirited humming kind. Off in the distance occasionally I see deer, fox, even a coyote or two. Red-tailed hawks, kestrel, egrets, heron and bald eagles make appearances fairly frequently, as do seagulls and osprey. We're only a mile from the ocean. Right now I'm enjoying watching Carolina wrens go back and forth to a nest they built in a pot of oregano on my deck! Maybe this piece could have been called Paradise. It is for me. You're invited to see the same view my front porch in other seasons in two other paintings: Morning and Morning Star. I hope you enjoy them. ~ Ellen |
