"Hello!" Celebration Series #13/25 IN PROGRESS

IN EARLY PROGRESS - I reversed direction with this painting of a ruby throated hummingbird, from a dark background to light. I've just roughed the hummingbird back in, so it's ... rough.
I started this painting with a deep green background, but the more I looked at it after painting in the shape of the hummingbird, the more i felt it was wrong. The hummingbird stood still. I blurred the hummingbird when changed the background, and that may have been the best thing I did. This beautiful little creature won't stay this blurred, but it will have movement!
When completed, I hope this 8" x 8" x 1/8" oil on Italian linen will capture the moment in early spring when your first hummingbird returns from migrating hundreds of miles south, buzzes toward you and hovers in front of your nose, wings humming like a little motor, as if to say "Hello!" - or maybe to say "Feed me!"
I hope the finished painting will fill in the gap of migration while these intrepid feathered wonders are down south.
"Hello!" is no. 13/25 in my ongoing Celebration Series of 25 small paintings being created to commemorate my studio and gallery's 25th anniversary.

I'm running behind on these. We're now well into our 26th year. I think this year I painted more commissions than any year in my lifetime. I hope you enjoy these special paintings no matter when the series is completed!
