It is very difficult to portray the true colors of this particular painting online. Digital photos have a hard time with warm colors and luminous nuances created by thin glazes of oils. I hope you'll come see it in person before it finds its home.
This 6" x 8" oil on a fine, 1/8" thick, linen panel is of a familiar scene for those living and vacationing along Delaware's southern coastline. It's one of my favorite evening views when heading home near Bethany Beach on Coastal Highway from Rehoboth Beach. The sky is ever changing.
This is a late August sunset. The worst of the summer heat is over and the colors created by the angle of the sun at this time of year are starting to get more vibrant.
The sunlight was intense lower on the horizon the evening this painting is portraying, turning tree branches nearest the sun blazing colors, lighting a path across the bay, piercing blades of tall grasses and silhouetting branches of twisted scrub trees bent by years of coastal winds.
A little to the left of where this painting stops is an old white building. If you had turned off before getting to this point a winding road would take you past a the Indian River Inlet north state park entrance, the park's rental cottages, a marina and more.
Staying on the highway instead, within a quarter mile you're crossing the tall expanse of the Indian River Inlet Bridge with its view of the Atlantic Ocean.
