I had to take time off from the series to fulfill other commitments, but I'm back at work on them again - four different ones you'll see developing or finished here this week.

The painting at hand is an 8" x 8" x 1/8" oil in progress on fine, Italian, oil-primed linen, my Celebration Series painting #12/25. You can see its development by clicking on the different photos.
The scene is at the end of a long, narrow path that winds its way through woods into a marshy area on the edge of Indian River Bay in the James Farm Ecological Preserve near my home. My reference photos are from a walk I took through the refuge for an 18-square-foot commission award for Beebe Healthcare's South Coastal Cancer Treatment Center's lobby and waiting area, then under construction.
The Beebe painting now hangs where visitors and patients waiting for treatment and their companions can rest their eyes on the scene and feel its peacefulness and perhaps get a chuckle or two out of a few playful creatures subtly hidden in the clouds. It's purpose is to uplift, and it has become apparent that it is doing it's job.
Since the center opened, a number of people have come to me asking for prints of Tranquility. I can't do any, however, because I gave away my rights to the painting, so I'm doing this little painting that encompasses the feel of the day in Tranquility and contains some of its tranquil elements. There will be small prints. Maybe later I'll do something larger.
The egret landing near the foreground of "Tranquility" has now flown into this little Celebration painting. Some of the clouds may bear a resemblance to those in that painting, possibly including a few of the playful shapes hidden among them.
I hope when finished people will enjoy the beautiful late summer day in the back bay area. Suggestions for a name are welcome!

All of the Celebration Series paintings are signed on the front and also titled and numbered with the words Ellen Rice Studio & Gallery Celebration Series on the back of the painting's stretcher bars or panels.
These small originals can be picked up in my studio or shipping via fully insured FedEx.
Please note: these digital images are lower resolution and only approximate the colors of the actual painting. The colors and natural glow of original paintings are always best seen in person.
