The final image. Note how the colors change as the painting is turned in different directions and in different room lighting in the other "progress" photos.
Come see it at my studio & gallery. Originals are always best appreciated in person.
"The Fish are Biting" is a 12" x 6" x 5/8" oil painting of the Indian River Inlet south side beach, capturing a wind blown surf, the distant Indian River Inlet Bridge just over the dunes, seashells scattered across the sand and sunlit seagulls flying overhead having spotted their next meal in the water - a welcome sign for fishermen, enjoyable to watch for the rest of us.
"The Fish are Biting" is my 11th Celebration Series painting. It is 12" x 6" x 5/8", on a gallery wrapped canvas and painted around the sides so it can be displayed several ways: unframed on a small easel, framed traditionally or framed in a "floater" frame, which enables the sides to be seen.
During the beach season, and even in the off-season for those who prefer having the beach to themselves, the beach on south side of Indian River Inlet is one of Delaware's most popular beaches.
I like walking it during the off-season, enjoying the fresh salt air, the pounding surf, hearing the cries of gulls and looking for treasures at my feet. Although the north side of the inlet is known as Coin Beach because of a 1700s shipwreck, the inlet has changed position 10 times that are recorded, and I've found a few of The Faithful Steward's cargo of British and Irish half-pennies on the south side. That's always a huge thrill.
There only 25 paintings in the Celebration series, one for each year since I opened my gallery. I hope you enjoy these small windows into life here on the shore. When the series is concluded, I seriously doubt I'll be painting this small again. They take almost as much time as larger paintings since I don't paint impressionistically!
Each series painting is signed on the front, then titled and numbered, with the words Ellen Rice Studio & Gallery Celebration Series on the back of the painting's stretcher bars.
These small originals may be picked up in my studio or purchased online and shipped via fully insured FedEx.
Please note: You are seeing a digital snapshot, and colors only approximate those of the actual painting. Original paintings are always best appreciated in person.
