This painting is brilliantly lit, radiant in person. The website program can't get it across.
"Majestic" is the only word I could think of to describe the feeling of the scene portrayed in this little painting.
The gilded edges of the massive cloud systems being pushed out to sea is a study in contrasts.
The ocean has calmed to bathwater smooth, yet the massive clouds are moving quickly. The gilded edges of the cloud formations make the foreboding darkness of the storm clouds less foreboding, in fact awe inspiring.
Witnessing such scenes fills me is part of the joy of living near the coast. "Majestic" is about the grand scale of life, yet is portrayed in anything but a grand scale.
"Majestic" is 6" x 9 x 5/8", an oil on portrait grade canvas. The painting continues around the sides so it can be displayed without a frame should you choose. Framed traditionally with a medium width frame molding it could measure approximately 10 x 14". Framed minimally in a floater frame it would be slightly smaller.
It is sold and and now gracing it's new owners' home.

Celebration Paintings can be spoken for via the dropdown menu below, in person in my studio and via phone at (302) 539-3405. Expected completion date is by the first week of February 2025. I'm painting it with the slow glazing method, working on it alternately with larger studio paintings.
The Celebration paintings are strictly limited to 25 in celebration of my studio & gallery's 25th anniversary. All are signed in oils on the front and signed, titled and numbered with the words Ellen Rice Studio & Gallery Celebration Series on the back of the painting's stretcher bars or panels.
When dry, they can be picked up in my studio, held for you or shipped via fully insured FedEx.
Please note: these digital images only approximate the colors of the actual painting. The colors and natural glow of original paintings are best appreciated in person. You can see from the different images how different light and angles change colors. I think the first one on the whitish background is closer, but it's somewhere in between.
