"Summer Respite," now renamed "Over the Dunes", Celebration Series no. 9/25 - in progress
I thought I was finished with this painting, but after letting it sit awhile I decided I didn't like the line of the dunes. They were almost straight, probably the result of a recent beach replenishment, but i wanted them more natural.
I spent a couple of hours shifting them around. I'll know in daylight if they "feel right."
I paint moments I love so others can share in the joy of them. This painting is of a quiet moment near the end of a beautiful summer day.
After basking in the sun, swimming and diving into waves to your heart's content, reading, playing ball (or surf fishing), chatting with friends and watching the other beachgoers head home ... now it's just you, the gulls, and the sun setting over the bay on the far side of the dunes. Dinner will soon be enjoyed.
I hope you enjoy the moment.
The colors of "Over the Dunes," painted in oils with the same glazing method I use on my larger studio works, change as the light around it and your viewing angle changes. As with all my paintings, I've been painting Over the Dunes entirely in natural north light, a constant that makes paintings look good in any lighting.
The 12" x 6" x 5/5" portrait grade canvas and the paints with which it is painted are the highest archival, professional grade. With proper care, this painting will remain as you see it today for centuries, an heirloom that can be passed on to future generations.
"Over the Dunes" can be wired to hang or sit on an easel as is, since it is gallery wrapped and painted around the sides, or it can be framed. It is available unframed via the dropdown menu below or in person in my studio during open house hours or via phone at (302) 539-3405.
My Celebration paintings are strictly limited to 25 in celebration of my gallery and studioi's 25th anniversary. All are signed in oils on the front and signed, titled and numbered with the words Ellen Rice Studio & Gallery Celebration Series on the back of the painting's stretcher bars or linen panels.
They can be held for you and picked up in my studio or shipped via fully insured FedEx.
Please note: these digital images only approximate the colors of the actual painting. The colors and natural glow of original paintings are best appreciated in person. You can see from the different images how different light and angles change colors. I think the first one on the whitish background is closer, but it's somewhere in between.
