"Toward the Dawn"
"Toward the Dawn" is a 16" x 20" oil on portrait grade stretched canvas of morning mist over southeastern Delaware marshlands.
It's a chameleon like painting in that its colors shift subtly in different lighting as shown somewhat in the photos here. The color shifts are due to the careful glazing method Ellen uses to bring out luminosity in her paintings.
In "Toward the Dawn," back bay marshlands are just beginning to come to life, the morning mist is rising, as a great blue heron flies toward the sun just over the trees dawning over the Atlantic Ocean. The heron is the only living creature in sight, but the marshes are full of life, some of which might make him a good breakfast.
