"Moonglow," 25 Year Celebration Series painting Number 1 - SOLD
I remember gazing out my bedroom window at night as a child and wondering so many things about life. Years later I'm still in awe whenever I look up at twinkling stars and the moon, which when full is sometimes encircled with a colored ring as its light transforms moisture droplets into radiant prisms. I think perhaps it happens more often here at the beach.
I have thousands of reference photos set aside to paint. I apparently see potential paintings everywhere, but would have to live a couple hundred years to paint them all - and that wouldn't work because I'd continue adding more. The beauty of life is infinite.
Recently I decided to paint a selection of my photo references in very small sizes to celebrate my gallery's 25th anniversary. Of all the photos hanging around in my storage cloud, this is the first one I chose.
"Moonglow" is a 6" x 6" oil painting on hankerchief-fine, oil-primed Belgian linen painted using a glazing method used for centuries to produce luminescent oils. It is noted as Number 1/25 of my Celebration Series on the back of the linen panel.
I've shown it here from different angles in different lighting situations to demonstrate how oils painted with this slow glazing method change color in different situations and have a luminescent quality.
I hope you enjoy my little painting, Moonglow. -- Ellen
