Tickets for the First Annual Coastal Towns Historical Homes Tour are now on sale. The seven-home tour will take place in Ocean View on Saturday, October 7, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Coastal Towns Committee and the Ocean View Historical Society are working to bring southeast Sussex County a new Coastal Towns Museum intended to inspire interest in local history and "lifeways" that made local towns and people what and who they are today.
Tickets are $20 for historical society members and $30 for non-members and are available at the Ellen Rice Gallery, 111 Atlantic Ave. (Rt. 26) and at Made by Hand, an international cooperative, 34444 Coastal Highway, South Bethany Beach.
Ocean View has a rich history, and the tour is a great way for newcomers to the area to learn about it. The town is well known for being the home of many sea captains during the sailing ship era, but did you know that the entire international broiler industry was started here by one woman? And how did Ocean View get its name when it lies one to two miles inland?
More information about the tour and the historical society are available on Facebook and at www.ovhistoricalsociety.org.
I hope you'll take this opportunity to tour seven of Ocean View's most interesting historic homes and help the historical society meet its museum goals. -- Ellen
