About Ellen Rice
Ellen Rice is a professional artist working from her longtime home and studio in southeastern Delaware about a mile in from the Atlantic Ocean.
She has been painting since a small child, selling her first oil painting as a teen to a fellow art student. Today, Ellen is considered one of the mid-Atlantic's most collected fine artists. Her paintings and fine art reproductions of them can be found in private homes, offices, government and corporate collections throughout the United States and in 18 countries on four continents.
"Light is at the center of my paintings. A woman once told me to always be aware of what I was thinking when painting, that people viewing the work will feel it. I try to do that. Each brush stroke carries the thoughts and feelings behind it. It's what brings smiles to people's faces and speaks to the heart.
"Whether painting a glowing ocean sunrise, the light in a child's eyes, a vision seen in prayer, or a tiny songbird on a flowering tree branch, I approach my easel with appreciation and peace, and release the work with the hope that all viewing it will not only enjoy its beauty, but be uplifted."

Visiting the Studio & Gallery - the welcome mat is out all year
You are welcome to explore Ellen's work in person at her studio & gallery all year during listed hours. Click on the "Visit the Studio, Where & When" page for hours, directions and a link to a live Google map.
The studio & gallery is located off the beaten path in the coastal area of southeastern Delaware in a purposefully built building in front of Ellen's home.
The studio offers plentiful north light through floor to ceiling windows overlooking the beautiful James Farm Ecological Preserve on the Cedar Neck Peninsula on the northern outskirts of Ocean View, Delaware. The peninsula juts into Indian River Bay about one mile west of the Atlantic Ocean and about 2 miles northwest of Bethany Beach.
Ellen's studio is about a half hour south of Rehoboth Beach and Lewes, Delaware, and fifteen minutes north of Fenwick Island, Delaware, and Ocean City, Maryland, depending on traffic. It's about 45 minutes north of Assateague Island, Virginia, home of the famed Chincoteague ponies.
Ample free, off-street parking is provided.
At left in the studio today, the final stages of progress of a finely detailed 24" x 15" oil on Italian linen wood panel of a Great White Egret with spring aigrettes or "wedding veil" tail feathers. Note: original paintings are best viewed in person.
